About Us

My name is Kyoko and I along with my husband, Dave and our best friend, Barb are the owners/breeder of Sakura Garden Australian Labradoodles. (Sakura means "Cherry Blossom" in Japanese.)
Dave and I live in Northern Virginia with our daughter Mai and son Rei, canine companions, horse, and an African Grey Parrot. We are all animal lovers. Barb lives in the beautiful mountains in the Swan Valley of Montana. She has surrounded herself with her dogs, Sage, Ryder and Sophie, an extremely smart and entertaining African Grey Parrot, Chloe and a very tall Tennessee Walker horse, Marshall.
My husband and I started showing and breeding Golden Retrievers in 1993. Our first Golden Retriever, Robin, became an American/Canadian Champion when he was two years old. In 1994, he took reserved winners dog at the Golden Retriever Club Of America National Specialty from the puppy class. Our foundation bitch, Coco, finished an American Champion title at the age of 20 months with 3 Majors in California. Our breeding interests were focused on improving the breed standard, but to be able to provide happy and healthy puppies to loving families. We found through meeting potential buyers and providing puppies to loving families most enjoyable.

My husband, Dave has been a huge supporter of our interests in dogs. He grew up training labradors for hunting pheasants and ducks. He works for the federal government as a K-9 Program Manager.
In his career, he worked as a K-9 handler in the detection of narcotics in San Diego at the U.S./Mexican border. He was an instructor for several years and trained teams (dogs and handlers) in the detection of narcotics, currency, explosives, and concealed humans. In addition, he was a supervisor at the K-9 Training Center and worked with the breeding program.
Barb has been friends with us since 1994. She has owned dogs all of her life and cannot imagine not having a dog by her side. She worked as a canine handler and supervisor on the southern border and a large international airport for over 17 years. She thought that It was the best job she could have ever asked for, spending her days with her four legged partners and actually enjoying going to work. She stated that "Kyoko’s research of the Labradoodle breed and in particular the Australian Labradoodle lines sparked my interest in this breed". She believe that anyone who wants a canine companion in their life should be able to fulfill that wish. She truly believe that life doesn’t get any better than spending time with your furry and feathered friends.

Our commitment for breeding Labradoodles is based upon our experience, love of dogs, providing a healthy, sound temperament, correct confirmation based upon ALAA (Australian Labradoodle Association of America) code of ethics, and raising loving Labradoodle puppies to families that will truely love and enjoy them as part of their family.
